Valparaíso como habitación urbana

Abstract

The text intends to unveil the sense of a place and the features that characterize its habitability through an analysis from its urban and architectural spatiality, as well as from its literary memory, employing the narrative resource as a medium to transmit the city form and to acknowledge its existence, in a metaphoric sense, as a living organism. Part of a wider study, the article proposes that the literary resource is a valid instrument to recover the memory of a place, the latter one understood as an environmental entity that allows an integral comprehension of the urban and architectural phenomenon, where the aspects of content (place and habitability), variable along time and builders of its own temporality, connect themselves to the permanent containing aspects (landscape and atmosphere).
